Default Need a 5th "fellowship" statue, not afraid to grind, suggestions?

Hey all.

So, I'm a 7-merc wonder who's set his sights on 12-13 HoM, and all of my goals I've set reasonably fall within the limits of "henchability", save one.

I need a 5th companion/hero statue, and I'm having a hard time locking something onto the eventuality treadmill of my playing habits. I'm not interested in cultivating an uber elite GW player skillset for the lifespan remaining before GW2, (the whole reason I picked the game back up after a many year hiatus), I've defeated all core stories of all three campaigns (normal mode, obviously) and EotN, so I'm not here to discuss builds, as I can and have brute forced a good amount of reasonably accessible content with my meager tactical skills and super powerful PvX cheat-sheeted mercenaries (just being honest here, please don't hate, I'm loving GW for story and GW2 linkage ). This approach will, eventually, within a reasonable amount of time, get me everything I want (again, only about 1/4 of HOM) except that 5th companion/hero statue. All of the options I have researched to this end appear decidedly unhenchable.

Here's what I have:

-Imperial Phoenix
-Black Moa
-MOX
-Animal Companion

The "shortest route" options I can see are the black widow via underworld or an EoTN hero armour upgrade, but all sources of which appear generally unhenchable. I haven't tried these avenues yet, (and I'm not begging for walkthroughs or handouts), I'm gathering intel before I strike out to try, but I'd rather get recommendations from people that know this game better than I do, so I don't waste my time or resources.

Like I said, all my other goals involve eventual, non-daily grinds. I know the widow can be purchased for zaishen, but I consider many hours in one day a couple times a week far more reasonable than two hours a day over a month. I can do long grinds, but it needs to be on my terms, timewise and frequency wise.

I should also mention that I'm a 100% PVE player, and thus very not interested in PVP options. I'd also rather avoid "purposely inflated difficulty" things like challenge missions, as I have heard these border on unhenchable. I'm not here to "be challenged" (on the "go looking for harder stuff to prove my amazingness" level), but to see story, spend time, and kill things at my own pace. Half of min-max (minimum time/effort, maximum gain) is "min", after all

If anyone can provide insight, suggestions, or correct my perceptions (like, if I'm totally over-estimating the brutality of UW or something), I'd appreciate input, you guys put me on this path to moderate (and good enough for me) success, and I thank you for the help, now I just have my mild OCD enflaming those 4 statues on the left of my HoM in my mind.

Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for any and all constructive replies.

I know you said no challenge missions, but the dajet (sp?) inlet is pretty easy (I am a pve only player as well), once you learn where the guild lords are you can pretty easily get one armor remnant

or
you can usually find some armor remnants for sale in kamadan...ranging in price from 5k to 15k for one (one will get you the hero armor).

Armor upgrades for heroes are piss easy, but don't bother with farming them, just buy them. 5 -10k each is ballpark. Also, Glint's challenge is eminently hero-able and a Cloth is guaranteed, so I'd farm that if you can't buy one.

The Black widow is totally doable with heroes, you only need to do a couple of easy-ish quests in UW. Your builds will need to be decent and you may need to add more prot in than you have for other things, but it's totally doable. Or, you could just buy a spider run.

Alternatively, you could buy/farm the z-coins and access it via the menagerie. The z-quests can be stacked (up to 3 per type) so you don't have to do them daily.

Like being said, the inlet mission is very easy. an average player can do that with any hero-team and get an hero-armor piece in like 5 minutes. Just makes sure you udnerstand that you need to kill the Guildlord and then move to the portal then kill two guildlords and move on, and so on.

The other alternatives is doing slaver's exile (pretty hard imo and take several hours to get a piece), DoA (again pretty hard) or underworld (takes bout 20-30 minutes to get to the point where you get the first spider.

See, that's exactly the kind of "perception correction" I was looking for, thank you, I'll look into that.

Oh, one question about economy, I'm very timid about entering player-to-player transactions because I'm absolutely not ashamed to admit that I'm wondering if, when they say, "10k", they mean "10 plat" or "10k plat"...

One is well within my means, the other is... well, I haven't been (and won't be) around long enough to make quite that much coin.

The hardest part of getting the black widow is remembering to take the cap skill!

Maps and quest details are available on the wiki, all you need to do is...

Enter underworld. Take the quest 'Clear the chamber' from the Lost soul .

Take 'Restoring Grenth???s Monuments' from reaper of the labyrinth

Destroy the terrorwebs around the statue and the reaper will appear, for safetys sake clear out the immediate area to the right and behind the statue.

Take 'Wrathful Spirits' from the reaper.

Just kill the spirits back along the path you arrived along. You hero party should kill the fast enough. The last group is up on a hill behind the reaper , as you deal with this group flag your heroes up here so they don???t kill your spider (which appears by the statue when the quest is completed).

Or also Shadow Nexus is very easy, to get the armor remn, if you have a decent lightbringer rank. I personally got all of the pieces there i 2-3 runs and they seemed less a "run all over the map getting an headache" than Inlet.
And there's also Remains of Sahlahja but unless you like a bad pac-man like solo I wouldn't advise this one.

I'll just throw in my own experience, I maxed out the fellowship monument by only using heroes, and I found it rather easy. Glint's challenge on nm i easy enough, I did it with a discord build to get my 10 cloths. The NF challenge missions aren't too dificult either, I remember that I bought the ancient armor remnants iirc, the ones you need to do DoA repetively for anyways. The black widow isn't difficult either, just enter uw with a decent teamsetup (you should have that by copypasting pvx builds, though I suggest that you try to modify them as you go in order to customize your teambuild to suit you perfectly, but as you said, that's beside the thread) on nm and don't take any unnecessary quests. Read up on the wiki first.

If you want to buy armor and don't want to sit in Kamadan to find sellers, you can usually just hang out in Eye of the North or the Central Transfer Chamber and spam for Cloth of the Brotherhood at about 3k each and hang out in the Gate of Anguish for Primeval Armor Remnants at about 8k each. (I know I see people asking for a lot more for primeval, but as recent as 3 days ago it only took a few minutes to buy a bunch at 8k.)

Really, just do as Kendil said and complete Glint's Challenge with your band of mercenaries. There's a thread in the farming section describing how to do it AFK. You'll have armor for all your EotN heroes in no time - or you can just stop after you get one for your 5th hero.

I'm a PvE player and found Glint's AFK or not AFK to be an easy "challenge."

This was the magic post that made my widow possible! Thanks for the walkthrough, the wiki did indeed make the rest clear enough to follow your directions, and now I have 5 statues, and I didn't have to buy anything! (except the scroll )

Thanks again all, you guys gave me the courage, I even fraps'ed the run, including commentary and respectful shout-outs to guru, and if I manage to edit the parts into something presentable, I'll link it up!

EDIT: Gah, the fraps came out kinda choppy, with the commentary much quieter than the game, so we'll skip that link, but thanks again all.

Don't be afraid to set your sights a little higher, it isn't too hard to get points if you get some minipets / armor sets / hero armor.

The Glint's Challenge mission in Central Transfer Chamber is fairly easy with 7 heroes and will give you a cloth of the brotherhood which can upgrade your EoTN heroes.

Firstly, if you're willing to grind the way you do- you can pretty much max all of the Fellowship HoM within a month (8 points is good if you're overshooting). In terms of grinding, Fellowship is by far the easiest HoM to max out your points (Dedication is easier, but it's surfing the market for what you need... which isn't playing PvE).

The Challenge Missions shouldn't prove too difficult, as you have mercs, and as you say, the "overpowered PvX builds."
Here's a quick rundown on them:

-Dajkah Inlet- 7 heroes, simple and easy. Run your Merc builds. 2-6 runs depending on luck.

-Remains of Sahlahja- Solo in a worm. This one is actually quite simple, just takes a different approach in terms of tactics. You can get all the armor remnants in 1-2 runs here, and especially guarantee it if you have a spare Rock Candy lying around (not needed, but convenient).

-Shadow Nexus- 3 Heroes. You have Mercs. Bring the most OP builds you have, I'd guess 2-5 runs depending on luck.

-Glint's Challenge- See this for an "AFK" farm: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/g...t10478958.html
Look deeper into the thread for a more in-depth description of how that build has been modified. You will be required to do *some* actions every 20 minutes or so, so it's not truly AFK, but it allows you to maybe do some home/housework/chat with friends while GW gets you free armor remnants, title track points, and gold.

These are good suggestions, but I feel I should explain my stance on min/maxing, and my outlook on the HoM. I'm personally of the belief that beyond the opening "burst" of points per monument ("one statue" points, coupled with "this statue" points are a fine example), the later points drop off significantly in "effortconomical" viability, for a "hit and run" approach to HoM as I am taking in preparation for GW2. This is particularly highlighted by the (for the characters I'll be making) long, long draught of "useless" things spanning between the dagger (13) and the longbow (22). I find that the latter points, even of the opening 30, are better set up for longtime players for whom multiple prestige armour sets, or a plethora of maxed out title tracks, seem a more likely idea.

Although, to be fair, I don't really have a solid grasp on just how much I can buy my way to later points (again with the grinding approach), but again, it becomes about "effortconomics" and time management when you get to the "three more suits of armour to get one more point" level.

Either way, I am incredibly respectful of those that will have 50/50 come GW2 launch, but I'm really here to set up my necro, thief and guardian with cool outfits, and to see the plot, everything else is gravy, and most of the things that would further that goal now (that I don't already have) are on the other side of a "chasm of meh"...

I mean, really, I respect all of my characters (and everyone else's) far too much to point a fish-gun at anyone

Thanks again for all of the help, guys, really. I had another happy moment when I beat the malignant guy in the WiK series, and realized I was two quests away from an oppressor weapon, that's one less grind I need to do!

I'm totally on board with being effortonomical. Given I've got one account 50/50, a friends to 30/50, and working on 2 more accounts for 50/50 and 30/50 respectively, it's not like I really have a choice :P

That said, some monuments are easier than others. For instance, minipets and armors (along with weapons) are actually pretty easy (assuming you're not getting FoW armor) and are, by far, the best investment of time vs money. The honor monument beyond protector, the individual statues for FoW, UW etc. and, maybe, guardian are frigging pointless considering the time required to max them can be spent to much better effect elsewhere.
